Manufacturers are the most threatened business by Covid-19 pandemic in Albania. Thousands of jobs have been lost due to the inability to export.
“We are not in good health. This is not because of business administration but because of the pandemic. 60 to 70% of workers have been sent home as result of lack in raw materials. Workers at home are not paid”, stated a union representative.
The second economic package of the government has included manufacturing in the financial support scheme, but entrepreneurs view it with skepticism as long as the bylaws have not yet been made public.
“This assistance to workers needs to be given in a more substantial form. There is a need to clarify the bylaws on the period it will cover. What we are looking for is to lowering of the price of electricity, especially for our type of businesses”, said the representative of the association of the Union of Albanian Producers, who added that they have written a letter to the government requesting that at least the workers be paid for 9 weeks.
