Cooperation protocol between Albania and Italy

These funds will be used for Economic Development for encouraging Foreign Investments with 22.4 million EUR, Agriculture and Rural Development with 5 million EUR, the Energy Sector with 16.2 million EUR, and 10.5 million EUR will go for the Aqueduct Canalization sector.

The second phase of the Debt Conversion Program for social sectors will have a 20 million EUR fund for the Education sector, and 5 million EUR for the Professional Formation.  0.8 million EUR will be used for good governing, democratization of the rule of law in support of the territorial reform and for the administration.

The Albanian Deputy Prime Minister, Niko Peleshi, signed for the Albanian side.

“This protocol remains also important because it goes up to 81.7 million EUR, which includes several areas. This protocol represents not only the priorities of the Italian support for Albania, but also the priorities of the Albanian government for development in the days to come”, Peleshi declared.

Peleshi thanked Ambassador Massimo Gaiani and the Italian Cooperation Office in Tirana for helping creating the new cooperation protocol.

“I am very happy with the creation of this new protocol, which comes after signing the political agreement in July of this year, between the former Italian Foreign Minister, Mogheri, and her Albanian counterpart, Ditmir Bushati. We have given special attention to the private sector with 25 million EUR in support of small and medium Albanian businesses. Certainly, I don’t want to leave without mentioning the professional education sector which is a key investment in the human resources. For this we will focus on the structures of universities, including professional formation, with 5 million EUR”, Gaiani declared.

The Italian Cooperation for Development is active in Albania since 1901, and has a support that surpasses the value of 700 million EUR.
