The platform introduction of the Macedonian Ambassador that has been
appointed to Albania, Stojan Karajanov, has been followed by harsh
controversies in the Parliamentary Commission of Foreign Affairs.
The leader of the Albanian Democratic Party in Macedonia, Bekim Fazlliu, considered as a scandal the speech of diplomat Karajanov, held in front of the Macedonian minority in Albania, and saying that the Albanian population registration has had irregularities that brought the exclusion of a great number of Macedonians living there.
“The mistake was made during the population registration of 2011, when, unfortunately, only 5521 Albanian citizens were declared as Macedonians. This problem was also faced by the Greek and Vlech minorities, as bigger minorities, together with the Macedonian one”, Karajanov declared.
Bekim Fazlliu, MP of the Democratic Party in the Macedonian Parliament, addressed this speech to the Ambassador: “You accused the Albanian state of making a mistake in the population registration, especially for the Macedonian minority. This is not done by diplomats. This is a great scandal. If I was the Albanian government, I would have reviewed the possibility of allowing such a stance to represent another country in Albania or not. That’s how many Macedonians are there in Albania. What can we do? They have been counted two or three times and that is how many they are”.
By defending the thesis of Ambassador Karajov, and by trying to oppose the Albanian colleague, the MP of VMRO-DPMNE, Romeo Trenov, went even further. He said that there are 200.000 Macedonians in Albania, who in 2011 did not declare themselves as such due to the fear and pressures.
“I ask the new ambassador to meet all significant factors, so that the Macedonians in Albania can be declared as such without any problem. I will also say that it is not true that more than 30% of the Macedonian population is made of Albanians. For me it is ridiculous to say that there are 10 million Albanians in Balkan”, Trenov commented.
“We saw a phobia that really exists in Balkan against the Albanians. This phobia should stop now, especially in Macedonia. These are no reasons against the Albanians, when we know that Albania is a country that does not contest the existence of the Macedonian state”, declared Bekim Qoku, MP of the Albanian Democratic Party.
The Macedonian Ambassador, Stojan Karajanov, will be transferred from Prishtina to Tirana on September 1st, and will replace Vele Trpevski, who will be Ambassador of Macedonia in Australia.
