Business associations united against the law for social housing, which forces them to give 3% of new apartment constructions to homeless families.
The Union of Commerce Chambers, Business Albania, the Builders’ Association and the Tirana Chamber of Commerce said that the cost will be transferred to its citizens. They also insist that the law doesn’t respect local taxes, which, according to them, makes it anti-constitutional.
Luan Bregasi from Business Albania said that the construction sector should not be the only one covering social housing policies. According to him, the government can use money received from concessions and PPP projects.
“The fiscal stamp concession has a revenue of 20 million EUR a year. There is the scanning concession, fuel colouring concession, etc, which the government has given to private companies. They could pay since these concessions have been donated”, Luan Bregasi said.
Builders reiterated that the government did not consult them for the social housing law, while it has entered in effect two days ago.
