Three weeks after the request of the Democratic Party against the
Vetting Law, the Constitutional Court took one of its most important
decisions.
The Constitutional Court suspended the law that evaluates the image and wealth of judges.
This means that starting from this Tuesday, the law stops being in effect until the court takes a final decision.
The Court has also decided to address the Venice Commission for an opinion, to see if the law is in line with the European Convention for Human Rights and with the Constitution of Albania.
According to the Democratic Party, which was the one filing a complaint against the law at the Constitutional Court, the “Vetting Law” has flagrant violations of the Constitution because it puts the new institutions under government control.
The “Vetting Law” is key for the implementation of the Justice Reform. Without this law, the institutions that evaluate the wealth of judges and prosecutors cannot be created.
