The new property law will stay in effect. The Constitutional Court
rejected the request made by the President of Albanian and by a group of
Parliament Members of the Democratic Party.
President Nishani and the Democratic Party requested the suspension and repealing of some articles of the law, which, they said, went against the Constitution and the European Convention for Basic Human Rights.
This verdict of the Constitutional Court avoids what the government considered earlier as a “catastrophe”. The Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani, said the situation created with the properties is due to the irresponsibility of politics. Manjani insisted that if the court will suspend the law, there will be severe consequences.
The Agency of Property Return and Compensation had declared through their director, Sonila Qato, that a possible return of this law would create chaos with 11.000 files under review.
