The Constitutional Court has rejected the request of the Albanian
President, who had filed it against a decision of the Parliament to
discharge the Head of the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of
Assets, claiming that the Parliament had surpassed its competences.
On February 20th, the Albanian Parliament appointed Shkelqim Ganaj as the Chief Inspector of the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets. This decision was considered a violation of competences by the President and the opposition.
The Presidency says that the Parliament did not respect the procedure, since they should have waited for a proposition from the President first.
The Constitutional Court of Albania reviewed the case and rejected the President’s request, since the votes during the plenary session were shared equally without creating the possibility of reaching a conclusion.
