Constitutional Court rejected Judges’ request against Vetting Law

The Constitutional Court rejected today the request made by the Union of Justice against 25 articles and three laws of the Judiciary Reform.

These laws are about the judiciary governing institutions and the status of judges.

One of the most delicate points of the law was about the image of judiciary people. Judges said that there was a violation if even “people suspected for ties with organized crime” were included in the investigation.

When the law passed, the vetting of the Judges’ image, besides the asset verification, was considered as one of the main pillars of the Vetting Law.

It received public support by US and EU partners with the argument of the Venice Commission, which said that the extreme measures of the Vetting Law were acceptable in the situation that the Albanian judiciary is facing.
