The government of Kosovo approved the Constitutional amends that make
way to the creation of the Special Court which will work on the charges
against former KLA officers for war crimes.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, who introduced the proposition for the Constitutional amends, declared that the creation of the Special Court will reveal the truth about the unjust claims made against Kosovo.

“We have nothing to hide. Confrontation with this problem is for everybody’s interest. Any other claim might be very damaging for Kosovo. Our approach in cooperation with the Parliament Speaker and the President  is the most righteous one for the circumstances. I know that this is not an easy decision, but this is a right decision”, Thaci declared.

PM Isa Mustafa valued the decision for the Special Court as the most difficult ever taken by his government so far.

“This decision serves to the Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo, and to the war of the KLA, because it was a clean war, for defending our homes and families. The suspicions on some individuals will not be treated as suspicions on the KLA”, Mustafa declared.

The government proposed to give a five-year mandate to the Special Court and ask the Court to have a shorter one.

The government has issued a special law which gives legal protection to anyone who might be accused by the Special Court, by covering all legal and transportation expenses, even for relative visits.

President Atifete Jahjaga greeted the decisions and valued that Kosovo is implementing the international agreement it vowed to carry on.
