Confession about “Kurban”

09/11/2011 00:00

At the Sheraton Hotel was promoted the book “Kurban”, written by the
Opposition leader, Edi Rama. A few hours before this ceremony, during an
interview for Top Channel, Rama explained some details of the book, in
which he has shown his political career and work as Mayor of Tirana,
without leaving aside passages from the family life.

Top-Channel: You have an 11 year long experience as Mayor, a political career, and not much of a private life. What made you write “Kurban” (Blood Sacrifice) and why exactly “Kurban”?

Edi Rama, author of “Kurban” – Let’s say that Kurban is a debt that I felt I had to the people who helped by staying near or far from me, a debt that I had towards my family, mother, children, wife and myself, the part of me that for a long time I had to keep silent. This book is seen with the eyes of the future.

Top Channel – This book was written in a short period, 2 or 3 months after what happened in the last local elections. You constantly say in the book that it is a very sincere confession. What made you make this confession right now?

Edi Rama – The book was written during July and August. Maybe it wouldn’t had been written without the person who slayed a sheep as “kurban” near the Municipality building. It happened exactly on the day when an animal was slayed at the door of an institution. It started as a confession in to myself, and was written as such.

Top Channel – Many people might ask themselves of what had happened, why Edi Rama turned into his self of the early ‘90s, not only with the editorials, but also with this book.

Edi Rama – It is the need to communicate in a qualitative way. The frenzy of the TV screen and daily life makes us lose the quality of communication. Writing is a way of speaking without anyone interrupting you.
