The Conference against violent extremism, part of the Aqaba Meeting, was held for the first time in Tirana, hosted by Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama.
Present in the meeting were several Balkan leaders, including Kosovo’s PM, Ramush Haradinaj, and representatives from Skopje and Sofia.
The Aqaba meetings are an initiative of the Jordan King, Abdullah. This is the first time it is being held outside his country, since its initiation in 2015.
“Religious tolerance is a true treasure which we need to protect. The next generations should be aware of this treasure”, Rama said during his speech.
The King of Jordan himself was expected to visit Albania for this meeting, but sudden developments in his country forced him to stay. He was replaced by the Prince of Jordan, who underlined that “problems must be resolved through cooperation”.
