The GFI company, which has the concession for marking fuels, reacted for
the first time after the conflict with the Albanian government, which
peaked with an interruption of the service for one day.
GFI say they were forced to interrupt their work after the Albanian authorities failed to implement the contractual obligations, such as marking crude oil.
As result, since 2013 they claim to have worked with only 30% of the planned capacity, and despite the financial losses, the company say they are proud to have contributed in the fight against fiscal evasion.
GFI say they have raised the budget revenues with 60 million USD while many other fiscal indicators have dropped.
The company say they have reported hundreds of gas stations that received smuggled or mixed oil, causing fiscal losses, environment pollution and damage on private and public vehicles.
GFI claim they have given to Albanian authorities a high-tech instrument to fight tax evasion in the crude oil, which is at around 70 million USD a year.
The concessionary company say that the service interruption was not a surprise, since the Ministry of Finances had been warned for months that they had not fulfilled the legal obligations, but never answered. They say the Ministry accepted to collaborate only after the service was interrupted.
GFI say they hope the Albanian government will continue the program for the fight against tax evasion and informality.
The news that the company and the government are discussing to find a solution, has been confirmed by the Ministry of Finances too.
