Lindita Lati, Head of the Competition Authority, said on the economy commission that this institution’s recommendation that would allow citizens to participate in Treasury bill auctions without paying commissions to private banks has not been implemented.

“Many recommendations have been released during the years, but not all of them have been taken under consideration”, Lati declared.

Mrs. Lati said on the 2010 report that they will propose a solution for binding public institutions to implement the Competition Authority recommendations.

The Competition Authority said that some markets are under investigation over monopolies and abuse, most important of which is the food market.

“Food markets of rice, cooking oil, sugar and vegetal oil are under investigation. Competition Authority will investigate not only their structure, but will thoroughly analyze all the affecting factors”, Lati added.

The Albanian Parliament approved last year a law that gives the Competition Authority the right to execute the penalties given by them. Mrs. Lati said that recently they have cashed the first fines, given several years ago.
