The compensation scheme for former political prisoners should be
accelerated, since only 20% of them have been paid by the state for
their years in prison.
The Minister of Social Welfare, Erion Veliaj, made this declaration while distributing the first installment of payments for 200 families.
“20% in 24 years. We would be needing 120 years with this pace. We are discussing with the Ministry of Finances to increase the fund in the next year, which would make possible more efficient payments”, Veliaj declared.
Veliaj said that they will ask the Ministry of Finances to increase the fund for political prisoners with at least 2 million USD.
The Director of the Political Prisoners Integration Institution, Bilal Kola, declared that the compensation scheme proposed by the new draft law is solidary and favors those who are alive.
