The Ministry of Finances explained that the 18 million USD fund foreseen
in the state budget for the payments of former political prisoners is
sufficient for paying 1200 cases that have not received even the first
installment.
Erald Mihali, lawyer at the Directory of Payments at the Ministry of Finances, says that 200 payments have not received the payment yet, which means 1 million USD, while 100 others will be distributed in the week to come. 300 cases of former political prisoners. We have a fund for all the cases of the first installment”.
The Ministry of Finances says that these payments were made during the last two years, after the closure of the inventory process for the files that have received no payment at all. What has blocked the payment process is the lack of documentation for 800 files, such as the act of heritage, for the relatives of former political prisoners.
“This document is very important. There are 800 problematic files. This doesn’t mean that they are disqualified, but the payment will be made after the documentation is complete”, Mihali declared.
The Ministry expresses the readiness to clarify the former political prisoners or their heirs at the Ministry. All files are published on their website, together with the lack of documentation for each of them.
