Communists celebrate with Hoxha’s portrait, former political prisoners protesters

The 70 anniversary of the Liberation from the Nazi occupiers started
with a marathon of the pre-university schools, organized by the Ministry
of Education and the Albanian Federation of athletics.

A few minutes later, dozens of communists marched on the “Nation’s Martyrs” boulevard with photos of Enver Hoxha and banners saying “Glory to the Nation’s Martyrs”. They stopped for a few minutes in front of the Parliament’s headquarters and then dispersed calmly.

On the same coarse marched the former political prisoners and their relatives. They held banners saying “Peace over hate in Europe, without the dates that symbolized the dictatorship. 4500 dead people are looking for a grave, because they were killed by November 29th”.

The Parliament stayed open for the public today, from 09:00 to 15:00, Dozens of citizens visited the Parliament’s room. German tourists also showed a special attention to the Albanian Parliament on this day.

“I am a German tourist, touring Southern Europe. This is my first time in Albania. I have interest to see Tirana. I was told this is a national holiday and it was possible to visit this building, so I thought I should not lose this occasion”, the tourist says.

The celebrations will continue with the “White Night” and the concert that will be held at the Mother Theresa square, with the internationally famed artist Jessie J.
