Commissioner Hahn: EU wants the Balkans to be stable

Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn stated once again how important for the union the stability of the Balkans is. In an interview for Deutsche Welle, Hahn explained EU has a totally personal interest on stability of the region in the face of the new geostrategic situation in the Balkans and Europe.
“Europe takes care because it is responsible for the region and this is positively accepted by the Americans. There have been cases, like Albania or Macedonia, where this relationship has worked under our guidance in total coordination”, Hahn said. He thinks this division of spheres of influence is between EU and US is very positive as Europe feels responsible for the region.
Hahn also commented on the topic of increased influence by Moscow in the region. “The piss us off, but that’s all. I do not ignore this but still I appeal to the countries for more self-confidence”, he said.
