The Socialist MP, Arben Ahmetaj, made a detailed analysis to what the
opposition considers “the electricity pyramid scheme similar to that of
1886-1997”. According to him, it all started with the privatization of
the Distribution System Operator.
“I will show you the privatization agreement for the DSO, an official document taken from the Parliament’s archives, where there is an absence of documentations, a series of important annexes that are related with the specific obligations between the parties, of the Albanian Republic. This agreement has important annexes that are empty. Imagine that to the Albanian Parliament was sent an agreement with empty annexes, where a series of important contractual obligations were to be signed about for the private operator”, Ahmetaj declared.
The Socialist MP declared that this privatization was nothing more than the transfer of a monopoly from one hand to another, from the state owned company to CEZ.
“Besides the fact that this national asset was sold for 102 million EUR, with 800.000 customers, the Albanian government has taken one step ahead and offered a guarantee of 60 million EUR from the tax payers’ money, with the Albanian government promising to pay CEZ 60 million EUR from the tax payers money. I want to show you this agreement that is a burden to the tax payer. Here is the agreement, and you can see the 60 million EUR very clearly. As for the government, their interest was to take the 102 million and use them for an electoral year”, he accused.
Ahmetaj considered the situation of losses as a real catastrophe.
“The losses in the network go up to 40%. The total losses are over 40%. The losses and the lack of investments are related with the high energy price that the citizens pay today. This is not only a result of the bad management of a company, but this government’s irresponsibility for an entire system that has been built during the generations”, Ahmetaj declared.
