Albanian citizens will no longer lose times waiting for a personal birth
certificate. The government passed a decision that allows state
institutions to print certificates on their own, if they have
authorization from the citizen demanding the service.
Until now, citizens had to go to the Civil Registration Office to demand a printed birth certificate, which they filed at the respective institutions where they needed a service. Now the institution which requests that certificate will be able to print it on its own, electronically. To guarantee authenticity, the document will have an electronic stamp from the General Directory of the Registrar’s Office.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 4.5 million birth certificates are issued in total each year. Citizens who had to travel to another city to receive one will benefit most. The decision is valid only for Albanian institutions, not for foreign institutions which operate in Tirana.
