The daughter of an elderly woman complained in the Fiks Fare program yesterday for he lack of care in the Fier nursing home where her mother has been living for the past 7 years, but since a year her health has deteriorated and the elderly woman is paralyzed.

The whistleblower states that staff of this asylum who do not serve the elderly because unless they bribe them  in cash.

Afërdita Xhemali tells Fiks Fare that no one cares or her mother so the elderly woman is forced to pay from 100 to 200 lek each time depending on the possibility of receiving some service. Aferdita, who lives in Italy, says that her mother has now parasites. “She itched because she had not been changes and pulled out the worm,” says Afërdita, asking for Fiks Fare’s help.

Fiks Fare saw the situation closely and met the elderly woman herself, who showed them her living hell, especially in the last year, where she had lost the ability to move and take care of herself. The elderly woman says that the asylum workers left her without a blanket for over 4 days in low temperatures, even though she asked them for one. Another concern was that of changing the babies.

They left the elderly woman for 24 hours without changing her. “I gave them 100 Lek each when they change my diapers and sheets. It’s hell here, but I don’t have the financial means, so I’m forced to stay here,” says the 78-year-old. Meanwhile, Fiks Fare’s journalists also spoke with other elderly who live in this asylum. One of them stated that he had had a pain in the arm for 7 days, even though he had complained, they still had not taken him for a visit. When asked if he had gone to the asylum doctor, he says “I went, but she didn’t give me a solution”.

Fiction visits the old woman the next day, when the sight is even more frightening, the room is unclean and smells of hunger. One of the employees brings breakfast, which is served without plates, but placed on the uncleaned bedside tables. The 78-year-old turns to the employee, asking them to change her baby and for the mattress that they had changed a while ago.

Fiks Fare after recording everything turned to the head of the asylum. The latter insisted that the staff “did the job correctly” and they took care of the elderly woman “even more than the rest”, even going so far as to say that the 78-year-old “doesn’t know what she’s talking about because of her age”.

The manager also speaks freely about the payments that were made to the staff in order to receive service, and justifies it by saying that “she gave it willingly because no one asked her for money”.

Fiks Fare asks the responsable to accompany them to the old woman’s room to see her condition closely. In the room, the 78-year-old woman tells her that she has not yet changed her diaper from the day before, which her roommate also confirms.

The manager then asks for the names of the employees who should have served the residents and says that ‘measures will be taken against them’. Regarding the cleaning of the room, the elderly woman tells him that she paid the sanitary staff to clean the room, because otherwise they would not come.
