Dozens of families and hundreds of children are isolated 247 due to the
blood feud phenomenon based on the rules of “Kanun”, a centuries old
code that is respected in some of Albania’s northern areas. Top
Channel’s “Shqip” program moved to a house in Bardhaj, Shkoder, in a
family affected by this phenomenon.
“Shqip” dedicated its entire air time to the history of isolated families, bringing through their testimonies evidence of a dramatic reality in which dozens of people live.
The children and other protagonists confessed the economic and other difficulties that the isolated families are facing, giving a painful panorama for the fate of many children who are obliged to stay at home 247, by imprisoning their dreams and their chances for education.
“Where is our society going like this? We all should ask ourselves. If there is no national initiative to resolve this problem in its roots, it will keep taking bigger proportions, unfortunately. This is an alarm bell for the entire society”, declared Liljana Luani, a teacher from Shkoder who helps the families with education.
“I want to plead to everyone to forgive the blood to all involved families, so that everyone can be free, and so that we can start a new life, like everybody else”, said one of the children of the families.
