Can we protect children from pornographic materials or contacts with strangers while they surf the internet?
The most recent study of Word Vision shows that at least 44% of 900 teens, aged 13-18, watch each day provoking materials on the internet without even searching for it.
“47% of children interviewed have been contacted online by at least one foreign person, the US, England and Italy. Half of children are exposed each day to inadequate materials. Some see them from advertisings that pop up automatically, others in internet cafes where there is no age limit or filters”, declared Ridiona Stano, manager of “Word Vision”.
Hundred of internet cafes around the country let children watch provoking materials, even though internet cafes need to have filters. The Minister of Education, Lindita Nikolla, declared that all high schools will have filtered computers, although the Ministry has inherited a 3 million EUR debt to internet companies.
“We are turning into reality the usage of tablets in schools. Their management in classrooms and the internet safety will be part of the protocols, and companies that will offer internet will have to follow several conditions, together with the clients who will help us in this pilot process”, Nikolla declared.
62% of the children throughout the country have internet access and computers in their rooms. Experts have asked to create a safety package so that it can be installed in computers or laptops that are used by children. Cell phone companies will have to place protection filters.
