General Director of State Police, Artan Didi, resigned. Didi sent a
resignation letter to the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister
stating his unrevoked resignation. The news for his resignation got out
on Tuesday morning unofficially , after he communicated with the all
chiefs of police. A few minutes later the official confirmation was
announced together with the letter of resignation.
The cause for this resignation was the violation of procedures from the head of Interpol Tirana, Artan Bajraktari and his officer Loreta Alla, arrested on Monday evening from the Internal Affairs Investigation Office for the case of extraditing MP Mark Frroku.
Even though he accepts moral responsibility, the General Director of Police, on his resignation letter doesn’t accept the he was aware of the request of Belgian police for MP Mark Frroku as being wanted for the assumed murder in Brussels. The General Director of Police stated in his resignation request that the action of the head of Interpol Tirana violated the image of the State’s Police, even though the police corrected the mistake.
“This is unacceptable for the prestige of the institution of the State’s Police. Assessing that we didn’t do enough to stop this from happening, I hand in my unrevoked resignation”, stated Didi. Maybe this is a new standard for the State’s Police, where the office-holder decides to resign for the actions of his subordinate.
