Convinced that richer countries are reacher not because of the assets
given by God or nature, but because of what they know, the Albanian
Prime Minister, Edi Rama,  launched an initiative for including the
sport of chess in school programs.

With the presence of Geri Kasparov, the international chess legend, who is visiting Tirana invited by the Albanian government, the Prime Minister declared that a pilot project will start soon for including chess in the teaching programs, which will start in 10 schools.

Young children will start thinking in front of the board not only based on numbers, as the chess master declared, but also based on strategies. This is part of the strategy and knowledge, part of the welfare, and for this we support this problem wholeheartedly”, Rama declared.

“I strongly believe that chess is part of the education system, and it will help with the education challenges of the modern 21st century. This is an almost excellent instrument for elementary schools, so that they can prepare their minds to face the modern education challenges”, he declared.

Present in this meeting were the former chess champions, Fatos Muca and Rozana Gjergji. As professionals, they valued the implementation of this project and expressed their convinction that with the right infrastructure and tradition, this sport could mark achievements.
