Today’s parliamentary session focused on the issue of chemical weapns,
with opposition Parliament Members asking the Prime Minister to answer
in Parliament.
The Socialist Party Parliamentary Group leader, Gramoz Ruci, spoke on behalf of the Socialist Party, the majority and the Prime Minister, saying that there has been no decision taken so far about the chemical weapons.
“We will take no decision that damages the national, regional, tourist and citizens interest, and no decision that goes against the interests of the European Union and NATO”, Ruci declared.
Parliament Member Sali Berisha asked Prime Minister Edi Rama to cancel his visit in Montenegro and come urgently in Tirana to give an answer for the chemical weapon issue.
Berisha underlined that with this declaration, Ruci only guaranteed that the decision for the chemical weapons has been taken.
“They have given the order for cleaning the Mjekes plant, and the Prime Minister never confirmed this, but the Mayor of Elbasan did, who had learned it from the plant employees that they had been ordered to clean the premises”, Berisha declared.
The podium was then blocked by the Democratic Party women Parliament Members, who said that they would not move until Prime Minister Edi Rama would come to be held accountable.
“We will not move until Rama comes here. This is the day to fight for our children. We want explanations, if Albania has been chosen for bringing the chemical weapons”, declared the Democratic Party Parliament Member, Mesila Doda.
Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta asked the Democratic Party Parliament Members to make a request for an urgent interpellation, and Rama would be there within one week, according to the regulation.
“The Prime Minister cannot interrupt an official visit with this request. I ask you to not create a precedent for this situation and respect the regulation”, Meta declared.
The Parliament session was then interrupted for a short break.
