Central Hospital, awaiting medicaments

The director of the Universitary Hospital Center in Tirana, Saimir
Ivziku, admitted the lacking of medicaments in hospitals, but he
explained that the law for purchasing these medications always creates
gaps in this period of the year.

“The period May-June causes lacking in medicaments because the procurement procedures impede a sufficient supply for the demand that our institutions have”, Ivziku declared.

Head of UHC also explains that the entire administration is working for improving this situation, and that there are more than 200 types of medicines included in these tenders, but bureaucratic procedures are the ones that create delays. He guaranteed that the first supply for emergency materials will arrive within June.

“We haven’t received any offer yet. This means that the tender for this category of medicines will be repeated”, Ivziku declared.

According to Ivziku, UHC offers its services to 13 thousand patients a day, and it also does interventions that should be done in hospitals of other cities. However, he wants amendments in the law of medicament procurement.

According to him, although UHC has the necessary funds, it still cannot purchase medicines. He guarantees that with the undertaken reforms, the hospital will offer another image to patients in the next year.
