The Central Election Commission announced as Mayor of Tirana the
candidate of the Democratic Party and “Alliance for the Citizen”, Lulzim
Basha, by approving with 4 votes in favor and 2 against the summary
table for Municipal Unit 5 and the General Summary Table for Tirana.

This decision was taken after all ballot boxes were reassessed and all miscast ballots were recounted, as ordered by the Electoral College on June 13th. The meeting started at 18:00 and continued with strong debates between the legal representatives of political parties, arguing about the facts that came to light after all boxes were opened.

The Socialists noted that there were many inconsistencies that should acuse these elections to be declared as invalid. More specifically, even after opening the new ballot boxes, there were found inconsistencies between the number of the total voters and the total ballots.

But the representatives of the Democratic Party declared that the decision of the Electoral College ordered CEC only to reassess the ballots, not to fix the inconsistencies. According to them, the pretense of the Socialist Party for inconsistencies was rejected by the Electoral College.

Chairman Arben Ristani read a decision that was different to what the administration had presented, making it as a personal proposition. The decision had a long argument that rejected the pretenses of the Socialist Party for irregularities. After this announcement, the Socialist Party has a deadline of three days to make another appeal.
