CEC Chariman: OSCE praised CEC

Arben Ristani, head of the Central Election Commission, accused by the
opposition as collaborator for the mandate of Tirana Municipality
declared that the OSCE-ODIHR report states that these elections
fulfilled the standards.

The critics expressed by this report against the institution he leads, for Mr. Ristani are product of the tense climate in which CEC was obliged to work.

“My evaluation converges with the evaluation of OSCE-ODIHR that these elections were free and honest, and that have fulfilled the essence of the standards and our commitments towards OSCE. The report considered these elections as competitive and transparent. “Competitive” could be easily translated in elections with equal conditions, meaning free elections. “Transparent” means that these elections are not manipulated, meaning honest elections. We are pleased that our contribution for managing the elections was improved”, Ristani declared.

Top-Channel: Since the report doesn’t mention the word “standard”, were the standards requested by the international community fulfilled on May 8th?

Ristani: Which are the standards? These are the standards. Honest and equal elections happening on the same time in the entire country. The report says in its very first sentence that the elections were competitive and transparent, therefore free and honest. This practically says that the standards have been achieved.
