In an interview for Top Channel, the Chairman of the Central Election
Commission, Denar Biba, said they are surprised by the decision of the
Prosecution General to open a criminal investigation against CEC.
The Prosecution accuses CEC of having information on the former convictions of Socialist MP Armando Prenga, and yet they did not file a report at the Prosecution.
The Prosecution also accused CEC of admitting the self-declaration applications of one MP and two Mayors beyond its deadline.
“This situation is senseless. We will have to assess the Prosecution’s act, to be more specific about it. But cooperation from our side has never been missing. We have responded to the Prosecution for nine names. If they have any new finding, we will act”, Biba declared.
“It is sad that they are putting this kind of pressure against the CEC, mentioning criminal punishments 4-5 months before the elections”, he said.
