The Spokesperson of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary group at the German Bundestag for European policies, Florian Hahn, reacted on the situation in Albania in an interview for Deutsche Welle.
His advice to the opposition is to stop the plan that they have started, as Parliamentary boycott is a big step behind for Albania.
“Usually there is someone else who replaces those that leave a Parliamentary seat. If there are reasonable people, they should fill the empty seats”, he said.
But the DW journalist said that the party leader doesn’t allow this: “This is a big mistake. It is not the party who decides for the mandate. This is how democracy is understood. It is the people who elect the MPs, not the party”.
The German official reminds that when the Democratic Party was in power and the Socialists were boycotting, he criticized the move the same way.
“I am not against protests, but the Parliament should never be boycotted”, he said.
