The Municipality of Tirana will hold the Car-Free Week for encouraging citizens to use bicycles and public transportation.
September 22nd is the Car-Free Day, when the main boulevard and small roads of Tirana will be blocked. A bicycle built with flowers is the symbol of this week.
Mayor Veliaj said the municipality will advise officials to use bicycles as more as possible, since Tirana is listed among the most polluted cities, with 500 people dying each year because of pulmonary diseases.
The Mayor said that the parking at the Square Italia will be administered by the municipality, and all the revenues will be invested in pedestrian roads and bicycle lanes.
