The Commission of Media and Education has listened the four candidacies
for the Albanian Radio Television Board, a key position for the
strategies that this public television will follow.
The journalists competing are Mero Baze, Ylli Pata, Artan Mullai and Kristaq Kraja. The candidates have presented their vision for the change of this public television, which has a budget of more than 10 million EUR each year.
The digital platform, the empowering of journalists and the increase of modern programs were some of the points mentioned by Mero Baze.
“This is a public entity, but from the legal point of view it is treated as a state enterprise with wages that are based on the government system, and it looks like the television is competing with the administration. In fact, the television is competing with other televisions, and for this reason it is necessary, and this is the place to say it, that the Albanian Parliament must intervene with the status of the Albanian Public Television. The managing competences of the TV should be such that the television may have the opportunity to pay good journalists with salaries that they receive in the private market. It should be an open market for journalists. It should have the chance to buy international programs, same as other televisions”, Baze declared.
Depoliticization and empowering of this public TV is a real challenge, according to some of the candidates. The Media and Education Commission will chose two candidates as board leaders, and the final decision will be taken in Parliament. The next meeting will have the Commission come out with the winning candidates for the leading board.
