The Democratic Party refused to be part of a hearing session with the
Ombudsman candidates, saying Socialists have not respected an agreement
held five years ago, when the Ombudsman was given to the Socialists in
opposition by the ruling democrats.
The Democratic Party MP, Eduard Halimi, said the appointing of the Ombudsman by the Prime Minister is unacceptable.
DP says the Justice Reform has given a new and more important role to the Ombudsman, and that’s why the Socialists are willing to keep it.
Fatmir Xhafaj, Socialist MP and chairman of the Commission of Laws, said the Democratic party has 28 MPs, who are enough to support another running candidate.
One of the new competences given to the Ombudsman is the announcement of vacancies for the new Vetting institutions. A decision that the current Ombudsman, Igli Totozani, is expected to announce this Thursday.
