The candidate status should have been a motive of unification for the
Albanian political class, but all parties are holding separate
celebrations exactly for the status. The majority and Prime Minister
Rama is organizing a reception ceremony at the Palace of Brigades, in
which they have invited all MPs, all presidents and all former Prime
Ministers of the past 23 years.
But the opposition will not be part of this ceremony. The Tirana Municipality, led by the opposition’s main force, the Democratic Party, has organized another ceremony thirty minutes earlier at the Artificial Lake.
Although PM Rama declared that the status should not be celebrated with concerts or parties, but with a modest ceremony, the concert organized by the Tirana Municipality will keep the Albanian politics still divided.
It will be interesting to see which party will the President attend to, since he has not confirmed his presence at any of them.
