For the first time a Canadian Foreign Minister has arrived on an official visit in Tirana.
John Baird’s visit to Tirana comes a few days after the operation for sending 10.000 weapons, 22 million bullets and grenade launchers from Albania to Iraq, through Canadian transportation.
Albania’s contribution in NATO is increasing the international credit of our country. The Canadian foreign minister promised a bigger cooperation agenda with Albania.
“Canada values the partnership with Albania in this war against international terrorism, which is an open wound for all of us, but that will be four our progress”, Baird declared.
“It is an indicator of our maturity that has only political benefits. It is a test for our cooperation capacities”, declared the Albanian Prime Minister, Ditmir Bushati.
The Albanian Foreign Minister declared that the regional cooperation with the NATO allies has increased also to stop and isolate the recruiting of Albanian citizens by Islamic extremists.
“We don’t hide the recruiting of Albanians in this unfortunate phenomenon. It has affected European countries and many others, but different from countries with an economic and social stability, we need to also improve our economic and social situation”, Bushati declared.
The Canadian diplomat declared that the economic growth of Albania and its progress to the EU are seen as the safest way for resolving the free movement issue, when he was asked about removing the visa regime between Albania and Canada, a country where the presence of the Albanian community in the past years has increased.
The Canadian Minister expressed the appreciation for Albania’s contribution to Prime Minister Rama, while Rama noted that the increased stability in our region is a real progress, but peace is still fragile in face of the increased extremism through the world.
