The Mayors of Vlore and Elbasan reacted against the suing of
municipality officials regarding the illegal constructions. The Police
in Vlore has sued nine municipality officials, accusing them of power
abuse. Mayor Shpetim Gjika says that this is just a show.
“The Vlore Municipality, with my signature and by proposition of the Municipal Inspectorate and the Municipal Police, has filed 185 reports at the District Prosecution for illegal constructions.
Only one case has been sent to court, five others have been rejected, and 179 cases are still staying in the Prosecution’s drawers.
All these reports the police is doing now have been covered a long time ago by legal procedures, some times including even a criminal suit, and all have had a decision to be demolished by the inspectorate. The State Police is just doubling the work of the Municipality.
The first priority is that the State Police should cooperate with the Police Structures and have a more tangible commitment to cooperate, so that the reports once made by the Municipality and the Inspectorate do not be repeated by the police just so that they can make some show for the media”, Gjika declared.
The Vlore coastline has been affected by constructions, and this is happening even in cities. Thte State Police has announced several actions for seizing the illegal properties, prosecuting owners and also the institutions that have allowed them.
Municipality officials have been sued even in the Elbasan Municipality. Mayor Qazim Sejdimi accused the National Urban Construction Inspectorate and said that builders have received amnesty.
“This is an unjust report that started in Tirana and after going around Elbasan, where they failed to take money from the Municipality and the Inspectorate, they went to the Prosecution and the person who hasn’t acted today is being tried. Strangely, they are suing inspectors and not those who have built against the rules and have used pressure. In all reports that we have done, we have said that the builders have been affected by the amnesty”, Sejdinid declared.
The construction phenomenon has affected several cities, and the action against them has been undertaken by the State Police. The prosecution against Municipality officials was announced even by the Prosecutor General, Adriatik Lalla, during a visit in Vlore.
“The responsibility doesn’t fall only on the persons who build illegally, but on the local officials who have allowed the construction of illegal objects”, Llalla declared.
