Oyster producers in the Butrint Lake say they have lost millions due to
high temperatures of the lake, since the Vivari Canal makes it
impossible to cool the lake with the Bistrica River waters.
Farmers say they have lost 60% of the product since sick oysters infect each other and there is no way to resolve the problem without cooling the water under 28 degrees C.
The Minister of Agriculture asked a temporary transfer of the oysters in the Ionian Sea, with the allocation done by experts. But farmers say the order forces them to invest in very deep waters, far from the shore, which would cost them dozens of thousands of Euros.
