The “Berisha” government has returned territories in Butrint Park and Ksamil as owner compensation.

The forum for the protection of the Cultural Heritage has reported these actions that according to them show the high level of corruption and the flagrant violation of laws.

“The National Park of Butrint, also known as part of the UNESCO, declared a National Park in 2000, has returned to private owners during the last months of the “Berisha” government. Important lands have been declared as territory for compensation to people who have conflict of interests with the former high rank officials, through suspicious documents. This was done with most of the National Park of Butrint, and respectively in the area known as the Butrint Channel, the Butrint lake and until the Ionnian sea, including the renowned islands of Ksamil”, declared Arben Bicoku, from the Forum for Cultural Heritage and Protection.

The Forum for Cultural Heritage wants to cancel all compensation decisions in the above-mentioned territories. They asked the Prosecution to start investigating this corruption.

“The Heritage Forum, which has reported for a long time the cases of damages made against our national heritage, reports today this act and wants the Rama government to cancel this decision. We also appeal the Prosecution General to open the investigations for this case, bringing to justice those who have falsified documents or who have broken the Albanian laws for the Butrint Protected Area. We want to let the public opinion know that the Butrint case shows the huge corruption that has been made with he property issue, by even damaging our national cultural heritage”, Bicoku declared.

The Butrint Park is protected by a series of international laws and conventions, which the Albanian government has ratified and violated.
