Businessman, suicide over gambling debts

Lulzim Saliasi, 42, cut his wrists in his Tirana apartment, leaving a letter for his family members.

Salias explained that he had gambling debts and he apologized to his family for this. The man asked his wife in this letter to take care of his two daughters.

Saliasi was found dead by his wife and his nephew. He had an appointment with them, and after he didn’t show up, they both went to look for him at the house. They brought the door down and found him dead inside.

Gambling has turned into a serious social wound in Albania. The main cause of divorces is the destruction of family finances due to gambling. It is also a source of crime, due to the chain of debts that victims create.
