Businesses, against additional fuel tax

Business representatives warned the Albanian government that the
frequent increase of fuel taxes is damaging the domestic production.

“One liter of fuel today costs 1.180 ALL. I don’t know who we have to compete, because our neighbors have cheaper prices”, says Nikolin Jaka, head of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Luan Bregasi, who manages “Business Albania”, declared that by increasing taxes on oil sub-products, as provided by the new fiscal package, it devaluates the beer tax that has been lowered by the government.

“You lowered the excise of beer and raised the excise of ‘solar’, a very important material for our industry”, Bregasi declared.

But the Deputy Minister of Finances, Alfred Rrushaj, declared that the new fiscal package lightens the tax burden of the business.

“In order to continue with the policy of not adding further costs to production industries, based on some reviews, the excise law proposes to make automatic reimbursements of all costs that will come after raising costs in fuels”, Rrushaj declared.

The second person in charge at the Finance Ministry wanted to make an explanation for the public, which has to do with the removal of Custom fees for used cars.

“Those who have entered cars in Albania until the end of 2010, and who have paid their obligations in Tirana, must pay 50% of the obligations and the rest will be pardoned. We noticed that car owners, considering the fact that the new project would have one tax less, have stopped the procedures for paying the obligations in the Customs”, Rrushaj declared.

The new fiscal package is consisted of three main drafts that change the taxes of used cars, of fuels, beer and raw materials of inward processing industries.
