The recent amends of the Criminal Code remove fines and give prison
sentences for tax evasion have created tension between the business and
government.
Stefan Pinguli, industrialist: Small and big businesses are taking the base of irregularities of courts, administration and laws that are not stabilized yet.
Luan Bregasi, Biznes Albania: The measures thought to fight informality hit the Albanian businessmen and enterprises. These measures will demoralize and deform the operation against informality.
According to business representatives, the legal amends have deteriorated the business climate by increasing insecurity.
Luan Bregasi: We have many difficulties, not because we don’t want this fixed, but because of bureaucracies, misunderstandings. Many administrators have demanded to quit.
Nikolin Jaka, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce: Even if these measures don’t have any effect, the proposition only creates negative business effects.
Stefan Pinguli, who comes from the group of industrialists, says their effect will not be what the government hopes.
