Business representatives asked the government to withdraw the harsher
criminal measures against tax evasion. The chamber of commerce say they
will have no effect.
Nikolin Jaka said the increased repression will make people tied with power even more powerful.
“Informal and smuggling businesses have been partners of the dark side of politics. Business will not be formalized by increasing the penalization. I guarantee you that the more you increase penalizations, the more powerful will those people be”, said Nikolin Jaka, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Business representatives were present at the Commission of Economy and asked about the new fiscal package.
“What pushes us to increase the excise for the domestic production? International pressure or pressure from the import?”, said Stefan Pinguli.
“Why would a foreign industry come and invest with a factory here when it’s easier from them to import their beer?”, said Luan Bregasi, from Business Albania.
The insurance industry requested to cancel the tax on prime insurance from 3% to 10%.
“This tendency will hamper the development of this industry”, Avni Ponari said.
The tourism association demanded to reduce VAT to 10% and make it equal to the other countries of the region.
