Business members of the American Chamber of Commerce met for the fiscal
burden report today, and reported the high level of corruption that
businessmen face in the judiciary.
“Only 2% or 3% of judges are clean. Others have a higher corruption level. One judge took me 19.7 million ALL for an insurance issue”, declared Fitnete Sulaj, Chairwoman of the Insurance Companies Association.
In this meeting was evaluated the tax burden based on districts, and the comparison with other countries. According to this report, the tax burden has dropped from 22.8% in 2012 to 21.5% in 2013. Tirana has the heaviest burden, due to bigger tax payers.
“The biggest tax payers make 50% of the total fiscal burden, 700-800 businesses who contribute with more than 50%”, declared Eduard Gjokutaj, Councilor at the Ministry of Finances.
Businesses have reported the unfair treatment that they have received.
“Business people should not be treated as sharks and let’s take money from them. Businesses who pay taxes and employ people need to be tolerated. There are other companies that have not paid taxes at all”, declared Fitnete Sulaj.
