The Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, appealed the citizens of Macedonia to vote in favor of the September 30th referendum. The referendum will decide if Macedonia will accept the new agreement with Greece, to be called Northern Macedonia, a step that would lift Greece’s veto for the country’s progress in the EU and NATO.

On his second day in Macedonia, Bushati met with his counterpart, Nikola Dimitrov, with who he held a joint press release.

Bushati mentioned Albania’s support to Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic project, and valued the role of ethnic Albanians as a factor of stability.

In this context, he appealed the citizens of Macedonia, especially Albanians, to vote the referendum of September 30th, as an agreement of major significance for the democratic stability in the region and for the common Euro-Atlantic perspective.

Bushati underlined that Albania is looking forward to the implementation of the law that makes Albanian the second official language in Macedonia, which he considers a decisive step for improving the inter-ethnic co-existence.

Both counterparts discussed about the situation in the region, the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and the relations with Greece.

Earlier the day Bushati met with the Speaker of the Macedonian Parliament, Talat Xhaferri, and Deputy Prime Minister Bujar Osmani.
