Bushati: Maritime agreement must be investigated

28/05/2014 00:00

The Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, invited the Prosecutor
General, Adriatik Lalla, to investigate how was negotiated the maritime
agreement with Greece by the current opposition leader, Lulzim Basha,
once Foreign Minister, who signed the document that was then rejected by
our Constitutional Court.

Based on the Constitutional decision, which says that our national interests have not been protected through this agreement by giving our territory to Greece, the Minister says that the Prosecution must verify whether the Criminal Code article 210 has been violated.

“As regards the people who have signed the agreement, I believe that the Prosecutor General has the respective documentation, the Constitutional Court decision, the international practice, which is considered violated by this court, and which can be referred to the Criminal Code. As for the people involved in the negotiation of this agreement, we will take the necessary measures. I will wait patiently for the Prosecution’s decision”, Bushati declared.

Article 210, to which Mr.Bushati is referred to, foresees prison from five to 10 years for the agreements made with foreign countries and through which the territory is given partially or completely.

“For the status, until the last minute”
Bushati: We are lobbying. We deserve it, but anything might happen

As for the candidate status, the Socialist Parliament Member, Ben Blushi, asked about how the European Parliament elections might affect it.

“The skepticism of some European people, added to the result of the recent elections, might influence the decision for us. Is there any erason for the European elections to affect us in June?”, Blushi declared.

“It seems that we will have a big coalition in the European Union. This is what we see for a big part of the European Union countries, between conservatories and christian-democrats”, Bushati declared.

While there are no expectations for the results of the euroskeptics to affect the result in Denmark and England, France remain concerned. From this country, Albania will take the first signals on June 11th, when Rama will attend a visit, a few days after the Commission will have published the progress-report and the recommendation for the candidate status.

“The report of the member countries will be up to them. I cannot speak on their behalf. We will continue with our contacts until the last minute, when the EU will take the decision”, Bushati declared.
