Bushati in Washington: “USA, more active engagement in Balkan”

During his visit in the USA, the Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, attended a meeting with the US President Adviser for Security Matters, General McMaster.

This meeting, which focused on the security challenges of the Balkan region, was attended by Foreign Ministers of Western Balkan.

Minister Bushati valued the cooperation between both countries and thanked the US official for America’s support to improve Albania’s defense capacities, for the assistance in establishing law-enforcing institutions and for helping with the fight against terror, crime and corruption.

Bushati reconfirmed Albania’s support to President Trump’s initiative for a frontal fight against terror, and reiterated our engagement to contribute with NATO peace-keeping missions in conflicted areas.

The Albanian Foreign Minister underlined how important it is for Albania to cooperate with religious communities for discouraging violent extremism, and asked the USA to offer more active angagement in the region, with an all-inclusive approach to its security structures, reducing this way the influence of third parties, as the only way to guarantee peace and stability in Western Balkan.

General McMaster appreciated the contribution of Albania in the fight against violent extremism and its clear position in favor of a democratic stability in the region.
