The Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, is attending the Ministerial Meeting for Religious Freedom in Washington DC, invited by the US State Secretary, Mike Pompeo.

During his visit, Bushati met with the Deputy State Secretary for Political Matters, Stephen Mull. Bushati expressed his gratitude to USA’s constant support to Albania’s internal reforms, such as the judicial one, and for guaranteeing stability and security in the region.

The USA must keep being present in the Western Balkans, Bushati said, not only as a peace and security factor but also as a counterbalance to third powers in the region.

Mull thanked Albania for the contribution as a NATO member and as a constructive factor in the Western Balkans.

Mull underlined the strategic importance that USA has given to Albania’s EU integration and the continuity of internal reforms. He updated Minister Bushati with the main messages coming of the Helsinki Summit and with the views of the State Department on the recent developments in the European Union.

Bushati also met with Senator Roger Wicker, the Chairman of the OSCE-Helsinki Committee.
