On the second day of his visit in Tokyo, Japan, the Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, met with the Japanese counterpart, Taro Kono.
In their joint declaration, Bushati and Kono expressed maximal appreciation for the improvement of bilateral relations, since Bushati’s first visit to Tokyo in 2015, which were followed with the opening of the Japanese Embassy in Tirana, in 2017.
“I am happy to confirm growing interest by Japanese companies for investing in Albania. This will contribute the country’s local development. Japan is ready to help all Western Balkan countries in their reforming path towards EU integration, as part of the Western Balkan initiative launched by the Japanese Prime Minister early this year, during his tour in Southeastern Europe and Balkan”, said Japanese Minister Kono.
Minister Bushati considered the opening of the Japanese embassy in Tirana as an act that shows the political will of the Japanese government for improving bilateral relations.
“It is now time for our economic relations to go to a new phase, including tourism, education and the contacts between both people”, Bushati said.
As for the Cooperation Initiative with Western Balkan, the Albanian Minister said that it will contribute in the democratic transformation and economic development of the entire region, including Albanai, which is a NATO member and also an EU candidate.
Bushati also visited the Japanese Parliament, where he met with the Chairman of the Japan-Albania Friendship Parliamentary Group., Hiroshi Hase, and other MPs who have played a significant role in improving the bilateral relations.
