The Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, expressed Albania’s commitment to protecting human rights and basic freedoms. He said that diversity is an integral part and biggest asset of our society.
Bushati held this speech at the high-level meeting “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a preventing instrument in the achievement of peace and stable development”, at the UN headquarters.
“We have integrated human rights in our diplomatic and political activity in our region, South-Eastern Europe. Diversity is an integral part and biggest asset of our society”, Bushati said.
The Minister added that human rights, including the rights of minorities, can be achieved only in a society where dialogue, understanding and cultural diversity are seen as a valuable asset.
Albania has undertaken the initiative for implementing objective 16 of the UN Agenda for Stable Development in 2030 regarding good governance, rule of law and strong democratic institutions. “We have made gender representation and budgeting a priority which makes us a model country for gender equality not only in the region”, Bushati said.
“Albania’s legal framework and the political action for the protection of minorities is in full accordance with the most advanced European and international practices”, the Minister said.
