Bushati: “Albania is aware of Europe’s enlargement fatigue and differences between South and North, East and West”

The Albanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, met yesterday in Brussels with a group of journalists, to whom he spoke about the ambitions of Albania in the EU, after the recommendation of the Commission for opening the accession negotiations, and after the visit of the Albanian Prime Minsiter, Edi Rama, in Berlin.

On April 17th, French president Emmanuel Macron said that this is not the right time for Balkan. Asked about this declaration by Euractiv, Bushati made it clear that Albania understands the problems of the EU, but wants to open the accession negotiations for better anchorage in the Union.

He said that Albania sees the difference between Southern and Northern Europe very clearly, which is based on economic development, and the eastern-western division based on values.

“We see a fatigue of Europeanization”, Bushati said, reminding that the term used before this was “enlargement fatigue”. The Europeanization fatigue is about many members postponing the laws on this matter.

Bushati admits that the process is long and that it is important in the strategic view.
